Meter Provers, Inc. Founder

Otto Leon York

1979 Meter Provers, Inc.

Meter Provers, Inc. was established and incorporated in 1979, in the state of Oklahoma by Otto Leon York, his wife Mary and his oldest son Steven. The company’s first meter prover and truck was based out of Sand Springs. Otto Leon, Mary and Steve built this business from the ground up partaking in an independent, arduous journey of blazing new trails, acquiring solid accounts and professionally and successfully maintaining them while his other three sons, Keith, Brad, and John and one daughter Angie, were at home completing their education. Eventually when all were able they began assisting their father Otto in the meter proving activities, along with Mary’s brother John Wilson, aka “Uncle Johnny”. As time went on more meter provers and trucks were purchased and the company began to grow into the successful organization it is now with branches in Wyoming and New Mexico. While “Dad” Otto Leon, “the boys” and Uncle Johnny were out on the road “Mom” Mary was in the Sand Springs, Oklahoma office managing fast-paced, high capacity executive administration.

Unavoidable Evolution

Following Otto Leon’s passing July 7, 2007 Mary, Steven, Keith, Brad, Angie and Uncle Johnny respectfully continued Otto’s wishes and legacy each running their own part of the company according to his original ground rules and intent. As time went by John chose to follow a Military career. Angie also chose an alternate career outside of the family business. Uncle Johnny worked with the company till his passing in March of 2014. Steve’s wife Jill became involved as Mary’s Administrative Assistant in October of 2014 and added safety compliance to her job responsibilities in February of 2016 working remotely with Mary from the Casper, Wyoming Branch office. Then, the morning of July 14, 2018 the family and business lost Mary York. Following this the Headquarters Office for Meter Provers, Inc. moved to Casper and the fast-paced high capacity executive administration became 100% Jill’s responsibility and is overseen by Steve, Keith and Brad.

Those we have lost are always remembered and forever greatly missed.

It’s a Family Thing

Though the company has grown to a high and solid level of business interaction it has not acquired a ‘corporate mentality’. Meter Provers, Inc. takes pride in continuing to be a family-owned and oriented business and in treating family, employees, customers and others with the utmost of respect. You won’t find doughnuts in the middle of the conference room table ready for the 8:15 a.m. Monday morning meeting while involved with MPI. (Though we all do like doughnuts!!) The information that could be relayed in a weekly meeting is always forthcoming in your designated shop basket or e-mail inbox - if there is pressing news, requirements and/or new developments. We all enjoy the freedom of the road, own the independent responsibility of the specialized science of metrology, and appreciate the family oriented approach to well, everything. Employees that become involved with the company become family; part of the Meter Provers, Incorporated family. As with any business, corporation, organization or family, you equally get out of it what you put in to it.
